Is Your Child Struggling with Sleep? Understanding the Signs

When Restless Nights Affect Their Days

It’s easy to overlook subtle signs that your child isn’t getting the truly restorative sleep they need. Perhaps you’ve attributed it to a growth spurt, typical childhood energy, or just a phase. But sometimes, these signs can point to sleep-disordered breathing, a condition that can impact a child’s growth, focus, and overall well-being.

Here are some common signs you might notice, and how they could be connected to your child’s sleep quality:

  • Snoring or Noisy Breathing: Does your little one snore loudly, even as a toddler? Or do you notice their breathing sounds labored or paused while they sleep? These can be important clues that their airway isn’t as clear as it should be, leading to fragmented sleep.
  • Daytime Challenges: You might see shifts in their behavior during the day, like hyperactivity, difficulty focusing at school, or a tendency to be irritable. It’s often simply because their body isn’t getting the deep, restorative sleep it truly needs to recharge.
  • Mouth Breathing: Consistently breathing through their mouth, rather than their nose, especially when awake, can point to an airway issue. This can also impact the healthy development of their facial structure and teeth over time.
  • Nighttime Disturbances: Things like frequent night terrors, sleepwalking, or even bedwetting, can sometimes be a signal that their sleep is being interrupted by struggles to breathe, preventing them from reaching truly deep sleep stages.
  • Crowded Teeth or Jaw Development: Even crowded baby teeth or concerns about how their jaw is growing can be connected to how well they’re breathing and developing. We look for these subtle signs, as a constricted airway can affect oral development.
  • Difficulty Concentrating or Learning: When a child’s sleep is disrupted, it can make it harder for them to stay attentive, retain information, and learn new things, which might show up as struggles in school. Their brains simply aren’t getting the rest needed for optimal function.

The Vivos System Nurturing Your Child’s Natural Development

For many children struggling with sleep-disordered breathing, the solution lies in gently guiding their natural growth. At Legacy Dental, Dr. Heather Magers is proud to offer the Vivos System, an innovative and comfortable approach designed to support your child’s healthy airway development. It’s a path that works with their body’s natural processes, rather than just treating symptoms.

How Vivos Works for Your Child

The Vivos System uses a series of comfortable, customized oral appliances, often worn primarily during the evening and overnight. These appliances gently encourage the natural development of your child’s jaw and facial structures, creating more space in their airway. Think of it as carefully guiding their growth, ensuring there’s ample room for proper breathing as they mature. This non-surgical approach is designed to be a smooth, integrated part of their routine.

What the Vivos System Can Mean for Your Child:

  • Deeper, More Restful Sleep: Helps your child achieve the profound, restorative sleep their growing body and mind desperately need to truly thrive.
  • Support for Healthy Growth: Encourages the proper development of their facial structure and jaws, providing ample space for their tongue and teeth.
  • Improved Focus and Mood: With better sleep, you’ll often see a positive shift in their energy levels, concentration, and overall happiness, making daily life easier for the whole family.
  • Comfort and Ease: Designed to be comfortable for little ones, making the journey to better breathing a smooth one for your family.
  • Long-Term Well-being: Lays a strong foundation for healthy breathing patterns that can benefit them throughout their lives, helping to prevent future health concerns.

Your Child’s Journey to Brighter Mornings with Legacy Dental

We know that taking the first step can feel big, but at Legacy Dental, you and your child are never alone on this journey. We’re here to partner with you every step of the way, making the process as comfortable and clear as possible.

  • Your Personal Consultation: It all begins with a warm, personal conversation and a gentle evaluation with Dr. Magers. We’ll listen carefully to your concerns about your child’s sleep and assess their unique needs and airway health.
  • A Tailored Plan for Them: If the Vivos System is the right fit, we’ll create a custom treatment plan designed specifically for your child’s comfort and developmental stages. We’ll explain everything clearly so you feel confident in the path forward.
  • Easy Integration at Home: The Vivos appliance becomes a simple, comfortable part of their evening routine. Our team will provide all the support and guidance you need to ensure a smooth transition and consistent use.
  • Ongoing Support and Monitoring: We’ll regularly check in on their progress, celebrating milestones and ensuring the treatment is effectively guiding your child’s airway development. You’ll see the changes, and we’ll be there to support them.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Restore your smile, naturally

Contact us

What are Tooth-Colored Dental Fillings?

Unlike traditional metal fillings, tooth-colored fillings are made from a durable composite resin material that can be precisely matched to the natural shade of your teeth. This allows the filling to blend in seamlessly with your smile, making it virtually unnoticeable. You can feel confident knowing your smile looks natural and healthy.

The Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings

  • Discreet and Natural-Looking: The primary advantage of tooth-colored fillings is their ability to blend in with your natural teeth, enhancing your smile’s appearance.
  • Strong and Durable: Composite resin materials are strong and can withstand the forces of chewing, effectively restoring the function of your tooth.
  • Bonds to the Tooth Structure: Tooth-colored fillings chemically bond to the tooth, providing extra support and reducing the risk of future breakage.
  • Versatile Solution: They can be used to fill cavities, repair chipped or cracked teeth, and even close small gaps between teeth.
  • Mercury-Free: For patients concerned about metal fillings, composite resin is a safe and mercury-free alternative.

What to Expect When Getting a Filling

  • Numbing: We’ll ensure your complete comfort by gently numbing the area around the tooth. You can expect to feel nothing more than a slight pressure!
  • Removing Decay: Dr. Magers will carefully remove any decay or damage from the tooth to create a healthy area to build on.
  • Preparing the Tooth: The tooth surface is cleaned and prepared for the bonding process, which allows the resin material to both stay in place, but also stay firm through the daily wear and tear of eating and chewing.
  • Placing the Filling: The tooth-colored composite resin is applied in layers and hardened with a special light, ensuring each layer is strong and bonded with maximum strength.
  • Shaping and Polishing: The filling is precisely shaped and polished to match the natural contours of your tooth, ensuring a smooth and comfortable bite.

Implant Supported Bridges

DENTAL IMPLANT SUPPORTED BRIDGE IN BURLESON, TX

Transform Your Smile

At Legacy Dental, Dr. Magers and Dr. Barosso are pioneering the future of dental restorations with the innovative solution of implant supported bridges in Burleson, TX. Our commitment is to restore not just the beauty of your smile but also its functionality, ensuring you leave our office with confidence and comfort. Learn more about how an implant supported bridge can address your dental concerns and what you can expect during the process.

Contact us

What Are Implant Supported Bridges?

Implant supported bridges represent a leap forward in dental restoration technology. Unlike traditional bridges that rely on adjacent teeth for support, implant supported bridges are anchored directly to the jawbone through surgical dental implants. This method provides a foundation of unparalleled strength and stability for the bridge. Crafted from high-quality ceramic materials, these bridges are designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, offering a solution that is both aesthetically pleasing and functionally superior.

What Issues Can They Address?

Implant-supported bridges are versatile dental restorations capable of addressing a range of issues. They are particularly beneficial for patients who have lost one or more adjacent teeth due to injury, decay, or periodontal disease. This gap in the dental arch can lead to shifting of remaining teeth, bite problems, and even changes in facial structure over time. By opting for an implant-supported bridge, patients can prevent these complications, as the bridge fills the gap and distributes biting forces evenly across the jaw. Furthermore, because the implants fuse with the bone, they also help to prevent bone loss, preserving the natural contours of the face and jaw.

What are the Benefits?

The benefits of choosing an implant-supported bridge in Burleson, TX, extend beyond a smile you’re proud to show off:

  • This dental restoration offers enhanced durability and longevity compared to traditional bridges or dentures.
  • Implants provide a stable foundation that can withstand the forces of biting and chewing without slipping or causing damage to surrounding teeth.
  • Implant bridges do not require alteration of adjacent teeth, preserving more of your natural tooth structure.
  • Patients also report improved comfort and ease of maintenance, making this an excellent long-term investment in your oral health.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Good candidates for an implant-supported bridge are individuals with one or more missing teeth who have sufficient bone density in their jaw to support the implants. It’s also important for candidates to have good oral hygiene and be free from periodontal disease. During your consultation at Legacy Dental, Dr. Magers or Dr. Barosso will conduct a thorough examination, including imaging tests, to determine if this treatment is suitable for you. Factors such as overall health, smoking status, and any chronic illnesses will also be considered to ensure the highest chances of treatment success.

What to Expect

We follow a comprehensive treatment process to ensure the best results for all our patients. Initially, you’ll undergo a detailed consultation with Dr. Magers or Dr. Barosso, where your dental history will be reviewed, and a custom treatment plan will be developed. The process typically involves several stages, including implant placement, healing period, and bridge fabrication. Throughout each phase, our team ensures your comfort and understanding, providing top-notch care and guidance. The end result is a beautifully restored smile that looks, feels, and functions like natural teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the lifespan of an implant bridge?

With proper care, implant-supported bridges can last 15 years or more. Regular dental check-ups at Legacy Dental and good oral hygiene are essential for longevity.

Is the procedure painful?

Patients are given local anesthesia during the implant placement, making the procedure virtually painless. For patients with dental anxiety, we offer various sedation dentistry options to keep you calm and comfortable. Discomfort during recovery is typically minimal and manageable with over-the-counter pain medication.

How do I care for my implant supported bridge?

Cleaning implant-supported bridges requires a bit more attention than natural teeth, but with the right tools and techniques, it can be effectively integrated into your daily oral hygiene routine. Here are some guidelines to ensure your implant-supported bridges and the underlying implants remain healthy:

  • Use a Soft Toothbrush: Soft bristles are gentle on your implants and the bridge. Electric toothbrushes are also effective as long as they have soft bristles.
  • Non-Abrasive Toothpaste: Choose a toothpaste that doesn’t contain abrasive components which can scratch the surface of your bridge or implants.
  • Floss Daily: Use a floss specifically designed for implants or bridges. A floss threader can help you get the floss under the bridge to remove plaque and food particles. Water flossers are also highly effective for cleaning around implants and under bridges.
  • Interdental Brushes: These brushes can clean areas that are difficult to reach with regular floss, especially around the implants and under the bridge.
  • Antimicrobial Mouthwash: An antimicrobial mouthwash can help reduce bacteria around your implants and bridge. However, make sure it’s a non-alcoholic formula, as alcohol can dry out the mouth and reduce saliva production, which is essential for neutralizing acids and washing away food particles.
  • Super Floss and Soft Picks: Super floss, which has a stiff end for threading, a spongy part, and regular floss, is excellent for cleaning around implants. Soft picks can gently remove plaque and food debris around the implants without causing damage.

How many dental implants will I need?

The number of implants required for a bridge depends on several factors, including the location of the missing teeth, the number of teeth being replaced, and the overall health and density of your jawbone. Generally, a traditional implant supported bridge replacing two or three teeth will typically require two implants – one at each end of the gap where the teeth are missing. These implants serve as the support for the bridge that spans the gap.

However, for longer bridges that replace more than three teeth, additional implants may be necessary to ensure adequate support and to distribute the biting forces evenly, thereby preventing stress on the individual implants and ensuring the longevity of the restoration.

Can an implant supported bridge fail?

While rare, failures can occur due to improper placement, poor oral hygiene, or smoking. Choosing experienced dentists in Burleson, like Dr. Magers and Dr. Barosso, significantly reduces these risks.

What Are Porcelain Crowns?

Porcelain crowns are tooth-shaped caps made from a durable, high-quality ceramic material designed to mimic the natural appearance of your teeth. They are custom-made to fit over a damaged or discolored tooth, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Porcelain crowns provide both cosmetic and functional benefits, making them a popular choice for dental restorations.

Benefits of Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns offer several advantages over other types of dental crowns, including:

Aesthetics

Porcelain crowns are prized for their natural-looking appearance. Their color and translucency closely mimic the look of natural teeth, making them an excellent choice for patients who want a discreet restoration. With porcelain crowns, your smile will look as good as new, and no one will be able to tell that you’ve had dental work done.

Durability

Porcelain is a strong and long-lasting material. With proper care and maintenance, porcelain crowns can last for many years, providing a durable solution for damaged or discolored teeth.

Biocompatibility

Porcelain is a biocompatible material, meaning it is well-tolerated by the body and less likely to cause allergic reactions or other complications. This makes porcelain crowns a safe and reliable option for most patients.

Improved Function

Porcelain crowns restore the function of your teeth, allowing you to bite and chew with ease. This can improve your overall oral health and quality of life.

When Are Porcelain Crowns Recommended?

Porcelain crowns are a versatile dental restoration, suitable for a variety of situations:

Decayed Teeth

Teeth with extensive decay may require a porcelain crown to restore their strength and prevent further damage.

Broken or Fractured Teeth

Porcelain crowns can protect and restore the function of broken or fractured teeth, preventing further complications.

Discolored Teeth

Severely stained or discolored teeth that cannot be corrected with teeth whitening treatments may benefit from porcelain crowns for a more aesthetically pleasing smile.

Dental Implants

Porcelain crowns are often used to complete dental implant restorations, providing a natural-looking replacement tooth.

Root Canal Therapy

Following root canal therapy, a porcelain crown may be placed to protect and restore the treated tooth.

The Porcelain Crown Process at Legacy Dental

At Legacy Dental, our skilled dentists, Dr. Heather Magers and Dr. John Barroso, provide a comprehensive porcelain crown experience:

Consultation

During your initial consultation, our dentists will discuss your dental concerns, evaluate your oral health, and determine if porcelain crowns are the right solution for you. They will take the time to answer any questions you have and discuss the benefits, risks, and expected outcomes of the procedure.

Tooth Preparation

To prepare your tooth for a porcelain crown, our dentists will first remove any decay or damaged tooth structure. They will then reshape the tooth to ensure a secure and comfortable fit for your new crown. This process may involve local anesthesia to ensure your comfort during the procedure.

Impressions and Temporary Crown

Once your tooth has been prepared, our dentists will take an impression of your tooth and the surrounding area. This impression will be sent to a dental laboratory, where your custom porcelain crown will be crafted. In the meantime, a temporary crown will be placed to protect your prepared tooth and maintain the appearance of your smile.

Crown Placement

When your custom porcelain crown is ready, you will return to our office for the final placement. Our dentists will remove the temporary crown and carefully fit your new porcelain crown, ensuring a precise fit and optimal function. The porcelain crown will be bonded to your tooth using strong dental cement, providing a secure and long-lasting restoration.

Aftercare

Following the placement of your porcelain crown, our team will provide you with instructions on how to care for your new restoration. Proper oral hygiene, including brushing and flossing, and regular dental checkups are essential to maintaining the longevity of your porcelain crown. With good care, your porcelain crown can last for many years, providing a functional and beautiful smile.

Types of Dentures

We offer the following denture options:

Partial Denture
If you have a few teeth missing in different locations, then a partial denture is the best solution to replace your teeth. A plastic base, colored to blend with your gums, holds the wireframe responsible for supporting your dentures and keeping them in place.

Complete Denture
If you have a medical condition or experienced trauma from the total loss of your teeth, then a complete denture procedure could be a good option for you. Over recent years, advancements in technology improved the fit and functionality of dentures that have made the procedure more effective and efficient.

Temporary Dentures
At Legacy Dental, we also provide temporary denture solutions for patients as well. Temporary dentures offer patients a dental solution while they are receiving cosmetic dentistry to replace missing teeth. With a temporary denture, you get the benefit of a natural smile while waiting for dental implants or dental bridges.

Why Choose Dentures?

Legacy Dental patients receiving dentures often experience a life-changing moment when they fit and use their dentures for the first time. Patients that had to avoid chewing on one side of their mouth due to a broken or missing tooth, now find that they can use their entire mouth for eating. Dentures provide a non-invasive method of replacing your teeth, with no surgery required.

Are There Other Dental Options?

While dentures provide patients with an affordable and practical way to replace missing teeth, it may not always be the best option for your unique needs. Cosmetic dentistry procedures offer a tremendous value that feels and looks more natural.

At Legacy Dental, we also offer hybrid procedures that utilize both implants and dentures. If you live in Burleson or the surrounding areas, book a consultation with us. During your visit, our expert dentists will examine your mouth to see if you’re a suitable candidate for the procedure.

After the examination, we will take an impression of your mouth to build a denture. After our dental team receives your denture, we implant the metal posts under the gum line and then secure the denture to the post.

This revolutionary procedure gives our patients the benefit of a fast and stable process that produces excellent results using implant technology.

DENTAL BRIDGE

Wouldn’t we all love to have whiter, more healthy-looking teeth?

If you’re missing teeth and you’re not a baby or a young child, you’ve probably found that it can be rather embarrassing. Unfortunately, once your “adult” teeth have grown in, it seems harder to get respect in your daily life with a toothless smile. The good news is that tooth loss is surprisingly common in adult Americans.

Contact us

Whether it’s from tooth decay, gum disease, a failed root canal, or an accident, many adults are missing teeth somewhere in their smiles. In fact, nearly 7 in 10 adults have lost at least one of their teeth by the time they turn 44, and by the time we turn 74, about one-quarter have no permanent teeth left at all!

Effects of Missing Teeth

If you are among this population, you know the difficulties that follow when you lose a tooth. Including the impact on how you speak, your ability to chew, and what you eat, your self-esteem may also take a hit, especially if the missing tooth now causes an unsightly gap in your smile. If left untreated for a time, a missing tooth may also cause your teeth to shift, lead to a painful condition known as TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder), or increase your risk for gum disease and tooth decay.

How to Fix Missing Teeth

Before you panic, know that Dr. Barroso has lots of options that can help fill in the gap that a missing tooth leaves behind. Fixed dental bridges are among the more common choices and work exactly how they sound: by bridging or filling in the space caused by a lost tooth. Fixed bridges are just that – fixed – and cannot be taken in and out of the mouth and are typically held in place via bonding cement and/or metal substructures.

Types of Bridges

Made from porcelain, porcelain-over-metal, metal alloys, or gold, a bridge uses neighboring teeth to anchor one or more artificial teeth in between them. Although there are several types of fixed bridges, there are three main types:

  • Conventional/traditional fixed bridge
  • Cantilever bridge
  • Resin-bonded bridge (also known as a Maryland bridge)

Cost of a Dental Bridge

The cost of a bridge depends on a variety of different things, including your insurance coverage, the techniques of the dentist and lab technician who makes it, where you live and your dentist practices, and the type of bridge you choose. The good news is that they can last anywhere from five to twenty years if well cared for, so it’s best to go for regular checkups and practice good oral hygiene to keep the area clean.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are like little anchors that are gently placed in your jawbone. They’re made of titanium, a material that’s incredibly strong and naturally fuses with your bone over time. Once the implant is secure, a beautiful, natural-looking crown is attached. No one will ever know you had a tooth replaced! Schedule an appointment with our team and give yourself the gift of a bright, complete smile again.
